About Roovet Articles

The free, curated encyclopedia for the overlooked

Roovet Articles documents people, businesses, organizations, and stories that mainstream sources often miss—written collaboratively and verifiably, with a focus on clarity, neutrality, and reliable citations.

What is Roovet Articles?

Roovet Articles is a free, online reference that anyone can improve. Since its creation on October 25, 2016, it has grown into a wide-ranging knowledge base that’s continuously updated—often within minutes of new developments.

  • Free to read, free to improve
  • Neutral, source-based writing (no hype or opinions)
  • Focus on under-documented topics and local significance
  • Fast iteration: errors can be reverted, gaps can be filled

Articles emphasize verifiability over authorship: what’s written matters more than who writes it. Contributions should follow our [[Roovet_Articles:Content_guidelines|content guidelines]] and be supported by reliable, published sources.

Principles (our “five pillars”)
  1. Encyclopedic scope. We document notable people, organizations, works, and events with lasting value.
  2. Neutral point of view. Attribute opinions; avoid hype. Facts beat adjectives.
  3. Verifiability. Significant claims require reliable, published sources with inline citations.
  4. Free to improve. Anyone can edit; consensus and sources guide outcomes.
  5. Respect. Especially for living people (BLP), we avoid unsourced or harmful material.

The community maintains additional guidelines and common-sense conventions. New editors don’t need to memorize them—start small, cite well, and ask questions on Talk pages.

How editing works

A simple workflow

  1. Pick a topic that fits our scope or propose one via Requested articles.
  2. Gather sources: news articles, books, journals, official records, reputable profiles.
  3. Write neutrally with a clear lead and sections (Early life, Career, Works, Recognition, etc.).
  4. Cite every significant claim with <ref></ref> and a References section.
  5. Save and iterate. Other editors may improve structure, wording, and citations.

Quality checklist

  • Lead explains who/what/why in 1–2 paragraphs
  • Independent, reliable sources (not just self-published)
  • No original research; opinions are attributed
  • Clear categories; optional infobox for quick facts
  • Images have appropriate rights and captions

Biographies of living people (BLP)

Extra care is required for living people. Use high-quality, independent sources—especially for contentious or potentially harmful claims. Remove unsourced negative material immediately. Avoid private details and treat minors and non-public figures with heightened caution.

Rights & licensing

Only upload media you have rights to use. Provide source/credit in the file page and a useful caption in the article. Logos or covers may qualify for fair use when strictly necessary; include a short rationale and prefer free alternatives when available.
