Tony James Nelson II (born April 13, 1987), also known professionally as Tribal Brown and Tribal Young Brown, is an American entrepreneur, website and software developer, author, publisher and recording artist. He founded Roovet and created the Tribal Universe, a shared dark-fantasy setting developed through novels, comics, character histories and related media.[1][2][3]

Nelson began developing web, recording, apparel and retail ventures under the Empire name in 2011. In 2013 he created Roovet as a connected digital brand centered on search, advertising, communication, publishing and online services. His later work expanded across digital books, comics, stories, music, cloud services, commerce and business software.[4][5]

As Tribal Brown, Nelson writes fiction connected to the Tribal Universe, including Tribal Bloody Beginnings: The Rise of the Dark Alpha, Rimitorry: Daughter of the Dark Alpha, the Children of the Dark Alpha series and Tribal Comics. As Tribal Young Brown, he has released hip-hop music through projects associated with Roovet Records, with catalog listings appearing on services including Apple Music, Spotify and Deezer.[6][7][8][9]

Public identities

Nelson uses different names for distinct parts of his public work. Tony James Nelson II is used for business, technology, publishing and public biography. Tribal Brown is his principal writing identity for the Tribal Universe, while Tribal Young Brown is his recording and performance identity.[5][10]

The identities overlap through Roovet's publishing and media platforms. Books and comics are commonly credited to Tony James Nelson II while author biographies identify Tribal Brown as his fiction name. Music platforms list Tribal Young Brown as a separate artist identity connected to Nelson.[11][7]

Early life and education

Nelson was born in East Meadow, New York, and was raised primarily in Amityville and other communities in Suffolk County on Long Island. Biographical profiles associated with Nelson describe him as the son of Tony Nelson and Sherrianne Nelson and state that his childhood included periods of financial instability and frequent moves.[1][12]

He attended schools in the Amityville, Bellport and William Floyd districts. According to published biographical accounts, he left Amityville High School at sixteen and temporarily moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where he lived with an uncle who worked as a general contractor.[1]

Nelson later returned to New York and attended Farmingdale State College, where he earned his General Educational Development credential (GED) in 2007. In 2019, he attended the University of Arizona Global Campus and studied general psychology before leaving without completing the program. He resumed his college education at Capella University in 2024 and earned a Bachelor of Science in General Psychology in 2026.[2]

Profiles about Nelson also recount that he was struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle during his late teenage years. He has described the resulting insurance settlement as helping him purchase his first vehicle and gain greater independence. Because much of the available early-life material comes from organizational or autobiographical profiles, those details are presented as published accounts rather than independently reconstructed history.[1]

Business and technology career

Empire ventures

Before Roovet, Nelson developed several businesses using the Empire name. Profiles published by Jacksonville Elite Movers and IMDb identify four principal companies: Empire Webmasters Inc., Empire Studios Inc., Nelson Designers Corporation and Empire Industries Corporation.[1][3]

  • Empire Webmasters Inc. provided website design, development, hosting, domain management and search-engine-optimization services.
  • Empire Studios Inc. operated as a local recording studio and became associated with an early independent music venture called Empire Entertainment.
  • Nelson Designers Corporation focused on custom clothing, shirts, uniforms, printing and branded apparel.
  • Empire Industries Corporation served as a broader business vehicle for retail and service projects.

These ventures established several areas that later appeared within Roovet: internet services, music, clothing, branding, retail and local service businesses.

Founding and development of Roovet

Nelson created the Roovet name in May 2013 while living in Berlin, New York. A company history published by Roovet describes the name as deliberately short and distinctive and says the early concept combined a search engine with advertising, email, social networking, reference publishing and other online services.[4]

Roovet was therefore developed less as a single website than as a connected group of branded services. Public company profiles have associated it with internet services, advertising, web development, media, moving services, fashion, music distribution and online publishing.[13][14][15]

Nelson has held leadership positions associated with Roovet, including chairman, chief executive officer and president. A 2021 company announcement distributed through Tampa Free Press reported that he stepped down from the chief-executive role while remaining chairman, with Hakeem A. Small named as his successor. The announcement also described the company's move from Berlin to Jacksonville, Florida, and its expansion into additional business areas.[16]

Search, publishing and connected platforms

Search-engine optimization was central to Nelson's original strategy for Roovet. In Roovet's published account of its development, he described creating multiple connected services that could share branding, content, users and links. The early network included concepts for search, video, mail, cloud storage, social networking, maps, advertising, publishing, music and payments.[4]

Beginning in the mid-2020s, Roovet.com increasingly operated as a combined media, publishing and business platform. Projects connected to the network included:

  • Roovet Articles, a MediaWiki-based reference and knowledge platform;
  • Roovet Books, for books, comics, authors and digital reading;
  • Roovet Stories, for long-form publishing;
  • Roovet News and other media products;
  • Roovet Sound and Roovet Records;
  • Roovet Mail, Cloud, Flow and Social;
  • Roovet Store, payments and commerce tools; and
  • the Roovet Business Suite.

A 2025 Roovet announcement described the Business Suite as an integrated system for leads, quotes, bookings, signatures, payments, websites, rewards, messaging and analytics.[17]

Nelson's technical work has been described as including PHP development, content-management systems, database architecture, search optimization, interface design, Android applications, cloud storage, digital publishing, advertising, social-networking features and e-commerce systems.[2][5]

Retail and fashion

Nelson's earlier custom-printing and clothing work later appeared under the Roovet brand. In October 2020, a Roovet-distributed announcement described planned men's clothing under the Roovet name and a women's line called Roovet Red, with athletic wear, casual clothing, shoes and accessories.[18]

A second release the following month described Jacksonville as the operating base for the fashion project and identified Nelson as the owner of the Roovet and Roovet Red lines.[19]

Publishing and creative work

Roovet Books

Roovet Books is the publishing and digital-reading platform associated with Nelson's books, comics and author-development work. Its public catalog presents Nelson as an author and lists works from the Tribal Universe alongside other titles and authors.[6]

The platform has been developed around author pages, book listings, series organization, digital access, EPUB and PDF delivery, comic formats and publishing metadata. Nelson's titles also appear through outside retail and discovery services, including Kobo, Apple Books, Bookshop.org, Fable, Booktopia, Fnac, Adlibris, Indigo and Rakuten Books.[10][20][21]

Tribal Universe

Nelson created the Tribal Universe as Tribal Brown. The setting combines dark fantasy, horror, supernatural warfare, family drama, political conflict and long-form character mythology. Its stories take place across nations and territories including Nebu, Gia, Terra, Murder Island and the Ka’Rukan Empire.[22][23]

A central element of the universe is Ka’ru, a supernatural energy associated with physical strength, speed, healing, endurance, perception and weapon control. The mythology also links developed Ka’ru to killing and inherited power, creating conflicts over identity, survival and the moral cost of strength.

The Tribal Universe is structured as a shared continuity rather than a single series. Novels establish broad character and political histories, while comics adapt or expand specific events. Roovet Articles provides reference entries for characters, locations, factions, powers and chronology.

Tribal Bloody Beginnings

Tribal Bloody Beginnings: The Rise of the Dark Alpha is a principal adult dark-fantasy work in the Tribal Universe. It follows Thirty-Two, a man raised within the Nebu Wolf Tribe after being stripped of his name and conditioned into a weapon.

Retail and publisher descriptions frame the novel around identity erasure, tribal law, ancient power, hidden bloodlines, political violence and the damaged sacred text known as the Tribal Bible. The book was released in July 2026 and is listed under ISBN 9798235669383 by Kobo, Bookshop.org and other retailers.[24][11][25]

The story connects Thirty-Two with Rimitorry Ka’ Tora, The Dark Alpha, Utrea, Nebu, Gia, Terra, Deathwave, the Harpies and other central parts of the setting. It functions as both a character story and an origin point for conflicts developed elsewhere in the franchise.

Rimitorry and Children of the Dark Alpha

Rimitorry: Daughter of the Dark Alpha is a young-adult dark-fantasy novel and the first book in the Children of the Dark Alpha series. The novel follows Rimitorry Ka’ Tora from childhood through adolescence and centers on family, survival, sisterhood, inherited power and the danger of becoming defined by violence.[26][27][28]

The narrative includes Rimitorry's kidnapping and rescue, the emergence of the Ka’Rukan ruling family, her relationships with Eshari, Sakori, Zafira, Khalembo and Polezah, her training, the Koth’Mara Wilds and Utrea's participation in the Gia Calling. Catalog listings identify the book as ISBN 9798235427808.[29]

The broader Children of the Dark Alpha project examines the childhoods and origins of characters shaped by the Dark Alpha, Utrea, Murder Island and Ka’Rukan. Creating Children of the Dark Alpha documents Nelson's development of the series and its approach to child characters, foreshadowing, Ka’ru and family relationships.

Tribal Comics

Tribal Comics is the illustrated branch of the Tribal Universe. The series adapts major scenes from the novels while developing its own visual presentation of the setting.

Issue 1: Dark Justice adapts material associated with Chapter 10 of Tribal Bloody Beginnings and follows Thirty-Two and Rimitorry into a hidden library where the doctrine of Dark Justice is revealed. Retail listings identify the issue with ISBN 9798233882494.[30][31]

Issue 2: Murder Island adapts the following chapter and expands the history and violence of Murder Island. Apple Books and international retailer listings identify it with ISBN 9798233409165.[32][33]

Other books

Ariana The Elementalist is a children's fantasy story co-authored by Nelson and Bjorn Karg. The story follows Ariana, the daughter of the Tribe Queen, who possesses powers associated with earth, water, fire and air. Music career

Nelson records as Tribal Young Brown. An interview published by its HIP HOP music states that he began releasing music in April 2022 and identifies “Consider This” as his first release. The song featured Real Litty and was released through Roovet Records.[38][39]

His 2022 catalog includes releases such as “End Game,” “Enemies” featuring Real Litty and “Hit Me On IG” featuring GK Dexter. Apple Music also lists later work connected to the 2025 project Red Rose and an appearance on “6 AM in London” by Melz Cali.[7][40]

Apple Music's artist profile identifies Nelson with Jacksonville, Florida, lists his genre as hip-hop/rap and includes an artist-supplied account of “Consider This” as his earliest musical memory. The profile also describes “In Da Club” as a significant later recording and states his goal of continuing to release albums, singles and collaborations.[7]

Nelson's music activity has also been connected to Roovet Records, an independent label associated with artists including Respekt Ova and Real Litty. ArtistRack reported that Nelson signed Real Litty in early 2022 following the signing of Respekt Ova.[41]

Separate from his recording career, Nelson developed Roovet Sound as a music-hosting and streaming project. A 2021 report said the platform had first been built in 2017, was later rebuilt following a server failure and was relaunched with tools for independent artists to upload and sell music.[42]

Creative approach and recurring themes

Nelson's fiction is built around shared continuity. Characters introduced in one novel may become the center of another book, comic or reference article, while political events are often shown from different perspectives.

Identity and naming

Names, numbers and titles carry unusual importance in the Tribal Universe. Tribal Bloody Beginnings begins with a character known only as Thirty-Two, reflecting a system designed to erase personal identity. The recovery, acceptance or rejection of a name is repeatedly connected to personhood, memory and resistance.[24]

Power and consequence

Ka’ru gives characters extraordinary physical and supernatural abilities, but its development is tied to violence, inheritance and the possibility of corruption. Published descriptions of Tribal Bloody Beginnings and Rimitorry emphasize morally complicated power rather than uncomplicated heroism.[11][26]

Family and chosen family

Biological family, adoption, sibling loyalty and chosen family are central to Nelson's fiction. Rimitorry places particular emphasis on children who form bonds after violence changes their homes and families. These relationships become political as the children grow into heirs, warriors, healers and rulers.[28][43]

Childhood shaped by conflict

The Children of the Dark Alpha stories follow young characters who are expected to survive war, training, supernatural danger and adult political struggles before they are emotionally prepared. The contrast between their growing power and their need for safety, belonging and recognition is a recurring part of the series.

Official histories within the Tribal Universe are frequently incomplete or manipulated. Libraries, sacred texts, secret programs, missing family records and suppressed events drive many of the setting's mysteries. Nelson has described interests in reading, writing, music, film, television, chess, technology and business development. His public biographies and creative commentary also emphasize fatherhood and family as influences on his personal outlook and fiction.[5]

He has been publicly associated with East Meadow and Amityville, New York; Berlin, New York; Baltimore, Maryland; and Jacksonville, Florida. Jacksonville became the principal public base for many of his later business, music and publishing projects.[1][16][7]
