Tribal Comics Issue 2: Murder Island is a dark fantasy and horror comic book written by Tony James Nelson II as part of the Tribal Comics series. It serves as Issue #2 of the series and is adapted from Chapter 11 of the novel Tribal: Bloody Beginnings. The comic centers on Thirty-Two as he reads a forbidden book in a shadowed library and learns the truth about the legendary place known as Murder Island.
Unlike a conventional action-focused comic, Murder Island unfolds largely through revelation, atmosphere, and world-building.
Premise
The comic follows Thirty-Two as he remains alone in a library after Rimitorry leaves him to read. As he opens a mysterious volume titled Murder Island, the issue shifts into a visual and narrative exploration of the island's true nature.
Plot summary
Murder Island begins with Thirty-Two seated in a dim library, reading after his conversation with Rimitorry. As the pages turn, the issue presents Murder Island as a hidden and merciless place where survival is the only law.
The comic describes the island as a closed system populated by former chamber survivors, hunters, fighters, and island-born inhabitants who will never be allowed to leave. It introduces the Varukima, instructors who train children in weapons, tactics, endurance, and cruelty.
The issue details the customs and dangers of island life, including temporary alliances, deceptive survivors, territorial warning signs, the arena culture surrounding the Calling, and the three distinct tournament traditions used by different tribes. For Nebu, victory belongs to a group of three. For Gia, a single winner survives a battle royal. For Terra, leadership is earned through victory without killing.
By the end of the issue, Thirty-Two closes the book and reflects on what he has learned. He leaves the library intending to find Rimitorry.
