Tia Washington

Tia Washington is a fictional detective in the Tribal Universe, created by Tony James Nelson II. She is the biological mother of Thirty-Two, the conditioned Nebu operative who narrates Tribal Bloody Beginnings: The Rise of the Dark Alpha. Her investigation into the tribe brings her into the custody of her own son, who initially does not recognize her. The later revelation of their relationship connects his lost identity with the family that continued searching for him.

Investigation and capture

Washington investigates disappearances associated with Nebu. Her driver's license gives her age as forty-two and identifies the woman whose name Thirty-Two does not initially retain as that of a person. His orders treat her as an obstacle to tribal secrecy. The opening episode ends with her apparent death and burial alongside two unnumbered wolves. Thirty-Two keeps her identification, leaving a physical record that survives his attempt to treat the assignment as routine.

The investigation also has a personal history. Washington has searched for her abducted son for seventeen years. He was nine when the tribe took him and is twenty-six in the opening narrative. Her husband has been killed, and she has another son, fifteen, by a different father. That younger son is Thirty-Two's maternal half-brother; the supplied novel does not identify him with any named Deathwave or royal child.

Recovery and conditioning

Eshari watches the burial and reports its location to Doctor Polezah. Polezah recovers Washington and keeps her alive in a laboratory tank. Eshari later tells Thirty-Two that she did not know who Washington was when she made the report. Her subsequent apology distinguishes the act she performed from the consequences she claims not to have understood.

Polezah's intervention does not restore Washington to her previous life. She becomes a captive subject of his conditioning and medical program. When Utrea sees her in the laboratory, she recognizes the resemblance between mother and son and orders that Washington be brought to her when she wakes.

Eshari later reports that memories of her son continue to surface despite the Doctor's belief that he has erased her former identity. This information comes from Eshari's account; the ending does not show Washington leaving captivity or completing a reunion with Thirty-Two.

Relationship to Thirty-Two

Washington's role gives the narrator's erased past a specific human connection. Knowing that she is his mother does not immediately undo seventeen years of conditioning. His reactions remain conflicted, including his difficulty feeling what others expect him to feel. The name Jabari Nthanda is separately given to him by Rimitorry; it should not be presented as a birth name recovered from Washington's records.

Appearance

The opening description gives Washington brown skin and brown eyes. Utrea later recognizes those eyes and facial features in Thirty-Two. The novel supplies neither a precise birth date nor a confirmed place of birth.
