Terra (deity)
Terra is a fictional deity in the Tribal Universe, distinct from the tribe bearing the same name. He is one of the living gods on Murder Island. Although he appears as a boy, the narrative presents him as an ancient being rather than a human child.[1]
Appearance and power
In Eshari: Daughter of the Dark Alpha, Terra appears in a green tunic, with brown skin and eyes containing layers of different colors. His apparent youth contrasts with the scale and age of the force Eshari senses. His power changes weight, ground and the space through which his opponents try to move.[1]
Confrontation
The encounter with Terra badly injures Eshari and members of her family. Its violence extends beyond the people able to fight him. Tavi and Mero, two of Khalembo's friends, die during the devastation. The surviving family members require treatment in Polezah's healing equipment.[1]
The episode demonstrates a gap between extraordinary Chamber survivors and a god. Winning battles against other humans has not removed the danger of a confrontation with the beings who govern the island's deeper rules.[1]
Tribe and Callings
Terra's name also identifies a tribe and its Callings. Kavumo wins the Alpha Calling, while Nim’Raza wins the Commander Calling. These are different contests with different rules: the nonlethal Alpha contest does not make the Commander contest nonlethal. Neither title is an alternative personal name for the deity.[2][3]
Sava's teaching places the living gods within the binding maintained through the temple's twelve anchors. The island's religious structure consequently reaches beyond the political offices held by the tribe's human rulers.[4]
