A Ka’ru dampener is a fictional device used to restrain or regulate the release of Ka’ru in the Tribal Universe. Different characters wear different forms, and a displayed percentage generally describes a restriction or release setting rather than a universal measurement of combat strength.[1][2]

Regulation

Nebu gives dampeners to Knargz, Zuberi and Makhera after meeting the family on Murder Island. The devices help prevent their accumulated power from escaping unchecked. Later fighting shows characters deliberately opening their restrictions as an encounter becomes more dangerous.[1][2]

During the final Nebu Calling, the Dark One, Knargz and Zuberi progressively release more power. Their victory depends on coordination and the nature of their abilities as well as output. A percentage by itself does not identify a character's age, office or total power relative to every other fighter.[2]

Different functions

The black-stone ring associated with the Dark Alpha in Tribal Bloody Beginnings has a specifically explained protective function: it prevents the fatal loss of lifespan associated with draining Ka’ru. It does not provide an unlimited usable reserve or mean that exertion no longer depletes energy. That explanation must remain distinct from ordinary output regulation.[3]

Likewise, the temple's relief from the island's pressure is environmental. Sava explicitly teaches that it does not add Ka’ru and does not refund the cost of a failed spell. Device, reserve, output and surrounding conditions are related but separate parts of the power system.[4]
