Vosh’Kalen, called the Drowned Teeth, is a fictional ruined fortress on Murder Island in the Tribal Universe. The Red Heirs reach it during their campaign against the Root-Eaters, and Eshari finds the infant Khalembo there. It is his place of discovery, not a confirmed birthplace or evidence of his biological parents' identities.[1][2]

Ruins

The fortress lies north of the old blackwater road. Its surviving walls lean inward among vines and water, and broken stone gives the site its resemblance to teeth. The narrative describes it as older than Ka’Rukan and the Five. More remote suggestions about its age remain uncertain rather than establishing a precise construction date.[1]

Discovery of Khalembo

The heirs enter while pursuing the remnants of the Root-Eater campaign. Eshari finds a blue-eyed baby and brings him into the family. His arrival becomes an important part of her role as an older sister and protector. The discovery does not identify the baby as a biological child of the Dark One or Utrea.[1][3]

The journey out is also dangerous. Two more soldiers die in a final Root-Eater attack near the ruins, bringing the campaign's losses to nine in Sakori's account. The heirs return with the infant, rescued people and the bodies of their dead. Their success therefore combines a new family member with casualties the narrators continue to remember.[2]

Place in the family history

Vosh’Kalen is separate from Nhem’Rakul, where Polezah and other children are recovered, and from Vhar’Mora, where Eshari herself survives a raid. The three places mark different events in the growth of the household. None should be used as a generic birthplace for every claimed child.[4][5][3]
