Deyr Koss is a fictional apprentice to Doctor Polezah in Eshari: Daughter of the Dark Alpha. A former mason, he becomes responsible for equipment that helps guide a patient's own Ka’ru. He works alongside the surgical apprentice Avela Ruun.[1]

Injury and recruitment

Deyr is twenty when introduced. He has broad hands and carries the gray dust of stonework. A falling wall crushes both his legs, and Polezah's fifth chamber rebuilds them. After recovering, Deyr questions why the tank expends power on pain that would have stopped without that expenditure. Polezah recruits him for the usefulness of the question.[1]

Medical training

Deyr takes part in Polezah's procedures with Avela, opening an artery while she practices closing it and observing the instruments that register the patient's changing condition. The training takes place on a restrained prisoner and reflects the violence of Polezah's developing medical system.[1]

His eventual specialty combines stone, iron and healing tanks. The equipment directs the occupant's own energy after the surgeon's hands have withdrawn. Deyr does not independently command a wound to close; engineering and Avela's physical surgery provide complementary functions.[1]

Later role

The two apprentices become known among the Queen's Wolves as the Doctor's Fingers. They remain part of Polezah's working team and help treat the victorious men after the final Nebu Calling. Deyr's survival and employment are established at that point without assigning him a later departure or fate the scene does not state.[1]
