Tal’Ruun
Tal’Ruun is a fictional quarry village in the Tribal Universe. Its conquest supplies the stone and skilled labor required to expand Khar’Rukan in Eshari: Daughter of the Dark Alpha. Eshari knows of the village because its carriers previously traded with Vhar’Mora.[1]
Location and resources
Tal’Ruun lies south of the split river. A worked hillside, pale quarry dust, a thorn wall and a cistern define the approach. Its carriers bring stone and food while concealing additional weapons beneath baskets. Eshari's memory of those details helps Zuberi and Nim’Raza plan the expedition.[1]
Conquest
Khar’Rukan's overcrowding creates a need for secure walls, water and more permanent buildings. Zuberi and Nim’Raza travel to Tal’Ruun with Eshari, hunters and Oru’Kesh. The village's defeat gives the conquerors control over its stone, routes and workers. Ashmouth frames submission as belonging, while the narrative shows the coercion beneath his language.[1]
The settlement itself remains in place. The movement north includes twenty masons, seven well diggers, twelve quarry workers, fourteen fighters, stone carts and tools. Some workers are bound. Their departure therefore differs from a freely contracted building project or the complete removal of the village.[1]
Ma’Kela and Khar’Rukan
The mason Ma’Kela goes north while her daughter initially remains to direct the quarry. Ma’Kela later negotiates removal of the workers' ropes and begins the capital's wall and palace foundations. The Six-Flame Palace is consequently tied to Tal’Ruun through materials, knowledge and the people compelled to build it.[1][2]
Tal’Ruun's role illustrates the empire's conversion of conquest into infrastructure. Its contribution is not limited to an anonymous source of stone: the novel names a builder and follows her changing position within the capital.[1][2]
