Vhar’Kori

Vhar’Kori is a fictional settlement on Murder Island in the Tribal Universe. It is Sakori's childhood home, destroyed when the founders of the Ka’Rukan Empire seize its livestock, supplies and skilled workers. The opening of Sakori: Son of the Dark Alpha recounts the attack through the eyes of nine-year-old Sakori.

Economy and survival

The village keeps cattle, goats, sheep, pigs and poultry. Its sturdy horses are particularly valuable for hauling loads through mud and over broken stone. Masons, tanners, butchers and food stores support a community that survives largely by trading or surrendering enough goods to persuade raiders to leave.

This accommodation is a practical survival strategy rather than a sign that the community has no weapons. Hunters and villagers possess spears, tools and blades, but most are not trained to face the power of the imperial founders. Sakori's account begins with ordinary childhood games around the animal pens before that imbalance becomes decisive.

Imperial conquest

Ashmouth presents reports of the village's resources to the rulers. Nim’Raza scouts it in advance, counting animals, supplies, buildings and workers. The later arrival of the Five completes an operation aimed at taking the resources needed for Khar’Rukan's expansion. The village has not previously attacked the empire or broken a treaty.

The elder Orash offers cattle, grain and horses while asking that the breeding stock and milk cows remain. The demand to take everything makes the villagers fight. Sakori's parents and brothers Jarek and Kalen die, and surviving children witness the seizure of the things their home needs to continue.

Sakori's departure

Sakori spits at the Dark One rather than submit. The ruler claims him and orders him brought to Khar’Rukan. He is restrained before the departure and taken away in chains. The event is conquest followed by a family claim; it is not a voluntary adoption or a rescue from unrelated attackers.

The dedicated novel explicitly makes Sakori nine at the attack. An earlier retrospective passage in Tribal Bloody Beginnings gives an approximate younger age. Keeping the source-specific accounts separate is more accurate than inventing a single exact birth date from them.
