Vhar’Mora
Vhar’Mora is a fictional village on Murder Island in the Tribal Universe. It is the childhood home of Eshari, who survives its destruction at five in the opening of Eshari: Daughter of the Dark Alpha. It is not her confirmed birthplace: its people found her beside a washed-out trail with no identifying family mark.[1]
Settlement and residents
The village has seven huts, a medicine shed, a smokehouse, two narrow approaches and three hidden exit trails. Eighteen people live there before the attack, four of them children. Layered bark roofs and walls of mud and timber sit beneath trees, with red warning cords marking the surroundings.[1]
Seli, the oldest woman and a healer, raises Eshari. The settlement offers her protection and care while also practicing cannibalism and preying on outsiders. Eshari recognizes both aspects; it is the community she belongs to, rather than an uncomplicated refuge from the island's violence.[1]
Destruction
Eshari notices signs of raiders approaching from the west. Seli eventually accepts her warning and hides her beneath the cutting table. Eshari remains concealed while the village is destroyed. She sees the kidnapped Rimitorry during the raiders' passage and remembers the faces, weapons and route of the people who take her east.[1]
Afterward she finds Seli and the other villagers dead. The Five arrive in pursuit of Rimitorry and take Eshari with them because she can follow the trail. Their arrival should not be confused with the raid that killed Vhar’Mora's inhabitants. Her assistance leads toward Nhem’Rakul and the new household in Khar’Rukan.[1][2]
Continuing memory
Eshari carries the village's names and Seli's lessons into her later life. Accepting Utrea as Mother does not require her to erase that earlier bond. The novel identifies Murder Island as the wider place of her birth while leaving the exact birthplace and biological family unknown.[1][3]
