The Dark Forest is a fictional region on the approach to Terra in the Tribal Universe. It becomes the principal setting of the final movement of Tribal Bloody Beginnings: The Rise of the Dark Alpha, as Rimitorry, Sakori, Eshari, Zafira and Thirty-Two travel to find Reonniz. It is distinct from the island wilderness in which the siblings spent their childhoods.[1][2]

Environment and magic

The forest is described through ancient trees, constricting darkness and unusually dense Ka’ru. Thirty-Two's ring responds to the power in the environment. The characters treat the landscape as dangerous territory requiring scouting and concealment, rather than an empty passage between kingdoms.[2]

At a defensible clearing, the siblings explain how Ka’ru can strengthen through combat and be depleted by spells. They correct Thirty-Two's belief that his ring has removed every cost of magic: it prevents the fatal lifespan drain he previously experienced, but does not provide inexhaustible usable power.[2]

Terra's patrol

A force of thirty-six Terra warriors confronts the travelers. Its leader refuses to let them take Reonniz and disputes their right to reach him. Thirty-Two fights the entire patrol, using several forms of magic and killing all thirty-six. The scale of the violence alarms his companions and draws the attention of distant mages.[2]

Deathwave 47

The Dark Alpha sends the completed Deathwave 47 through a portal into the forest to retrieve Reonniz. The travelers split up to delay him. Sakori, Zinetha and Khalembo are defeated in succession, while Eshari holds him off long enough for Thirty-Two to use a newly found restoration page. Even the reunited group cannot finish the battle unaided.[3]

Nim’Raza intervenes near the plains beyond the forest and overcomes 47. Zinetha's dagger and Eshari's final kick send the injured weapon through Thirty-Two's portal to Nebu. Nim’Raza then promises the Terra Bible pages and returns toward the fortress with Razhaku. The ending leaves Reonniz's rescue ahead of the group, not already accomplished.[3]
