Oru’Kesh

Oru’Kesh, better known as Ashmouth, is a fictional preacher and propagandist in the Tribal Universe. He attaches himself to the expansion of the Ka’Rukan Empire and supplies language that turns conquest, coerced labor and submission into public stories of belonging. He appears throughout Eshari: Daughter of the Dark Alpha.

Arrival and the name Ashmouth

Oru’Kesh joins the expedition to Tal’Ruun despite Zuberi's objections. He is tall and thin, wears ash-colored robes and copper threads around his wrists, and carries a staff decorated with six black feathers. Bitterroot has stained his mouth. He argues that terror lasts longer when people are given a story that explains it.

After the conquest, he presents the survivors' subordination as a meaningful new purpose. A woman calls him an ash-mouthed liar. He adopts “Ashmouth” as a title and treats its spread as a success. The alias and Oru’Kesh consequently refer to one person, not two officials.

Naming the empire

Ashmouth helps frame the six rulers as the Six Flames and names their new fortified residence the Six-Flame Palace. Ma’Kela's construction work and the rulers' practical requirements build the fortress; his contribution is its public interpretation. Eshari frequently challenges his language, while the founders alternately tolerate, mock and use him.

His work also contributes to expansion. Reports he presents about Vhar’Kori identify the livestock, horses, skilled workers and supplies the empire wants. The campaign is motivated by those resources, rather than a wrong Vhar’Kori has committed against the founders.

Rebellion and later reign

When Tashara Sorn uses Yanna's identity to organize rebellion, Ashmouth treats the hostile symbols as an attack on imperial meaning as well as authority. He accompanies the campaign in which Yanna and Eshari reassert their names. His sermons work beside military violence; they do not establish that the conquered populations freely consent to it.

At Nebu's Calling, Ashmouth remains with the empire as Eshari and the winning household leave the island. His presence at that farewell places him among the institutions and people continuing under the crown entrusted to Yanna. The supplied text does not give a later death, exact age or biological family for him.
